Bio: Victor Murdoc is a man who is not who he appears
to be. He hides much from the world, but with purpose. His
true identity has been so deeply buried, that no normal, average person
could possibly uncover it. He's a man with an extremely extensive,
deeply emotional, highly diverse, and mysterious past.
Victor Murdoc became a licensed bounty hunter 23 years
ago, but the standard fare of his occupation is dull, boring, and tiresome
compared to his chosen prey. He chose to persue more 'otherworldly'
paths. Only taking jobs that delt with the occult, the supernatural,
or the paranormal. He had been extremely familiar with said subjects
all his life, and understood more about them than most anyone would dare
to know. He understood what many would never even dare to accept,
let alone acknowledge. His chosen prey would be that of the demonic,
the occult, and the unholy. Victor Murdoc is a man with a knowledge
that is as uncanny as his covert methods. He doesn’t give answers,
only builds up the questions where he is concerned, but the truth lies
with his origins.
Victor Alexander Murdoc is not this man’s birth name,
and he is older than one may guess. Victor Murdoc was born under
the name David William Samuels in the year 1841, 163 years ago. He
was the newest in a bloodline of warlocks that dated back to the early
10th century. David was raised just as all who preceeded him, but
deep within David was a spark of defiance. A conscience that spoke
to him, and drove a wedge between he and his wicked bloodline. Though,
his family would not stop at trying to raise him as a wicked and evil warlock
like the rest of his kin. In his late teens, David mounted a horse
and rode off into the wilderness, trying to escape his family’s legacy
of darkness. At the age of 25, David returned home to confront his
destiny. He took up his sword and slaughtered his entire family,
but just before he murdered his own father, he told him that he was no
longer David William Samuels. He was now Varrick, and would never
rest until he has rid the world of every last warlock, demon, and agent
of unholy conjuring. He then beheaded his father with one, swift
stroke. Varrick, as he was now known as, travelled the globe hunting
down and slaying every warlock and student of the black arts he could find.
When he finally arrived in North America, he came into
close contact with a Native American shaman. The shaman could tell
that Varrick was on a errand to help cleanse the world of the darkest spirits,
and offered to help him in his quest by strengthening Varrick’s life force.
The shaman told him that this would only prolong his life indefinitely,
but it would protect him from injury and death so he may continue his battle
against the darkness. Varrick understood, and allowed the shaman to do
as he offered. Although, as the shaaman was not aware of the sort
of adversaries Varrick was hunting, the spell only shielded Varrick from
injury or death by the mortal beings and objects of Earthly origin, not
from those of or possessing powers of otherworldly origins such as demons,
angels, warlocks, vampires, and so forth. Once the ritual was completed,
Varrick did not become immortal as some would say. Varrick would
not age, could not die, and could not suffer from injury or disease.
He would not physically age from that point on, not until the day when
the shaman's "spell" wore off. Even the shaman himself could not
even guess as to when that would be. It could be decades. It
could be centuries. Varrick stayed with the shaman for a few days,
and then, continued his journey, his hunt.
In the following decades, Varrick would continue on his
crusade to rid the world of the forces of otherworldly evil. He avoided
making many friends simply because he knew that he could quite likely out-live
them, and he did. The man was a nomadic hunter, travelling all over
the landscape, attempting to track down the hellish evil that was plaguing
the world. He watched as the world changed around him, and how his
immortal foes kept to their ancient practices. Varrick never kept
any sort of running total of how many agents of darkness he had slain -
it was never about sport, it was about vanquishing evil, cut n' dry.
Though, such lines would eventually not be so solid or as clear cut as
he believed them to be.
With the 20th century came a brave new world with a great
many opportunities for both good and evil. The demonic forces prowling
the Earth would forge new alliances, but so would the champions of the
world. In the early 1940's, Varrick crossed paths with a kind of
otherworldly being he had never encountered before - an angel. An
angel by the name of Elliott. A bit mysterous, secretive, and shady
in his own right, but firmly on the side of Heaven. The two met in
San Francisco, California while Varrick was tracking down a very cunning
warlock. They were a bit adversarial at first, and still are somewhat
to this day. But they soon forged a unique friendship that endures
to this day. Elliott often comes to him with needed information regarding
the whereabouts of various agents of evil, and at times, information on
the happenings in Heaven - both favorable and non-favorable. He's
made his friend well aware of the fact that Heaven isn't completely what
various religious texts make it out to be, and that you should not be too
welcoming to the company of certain angels.
The case in point of the not-so-clear-cut lines of good
and evil, Heaven and Hell, come in the form of Grahgor Venisson.
A long-standing angel that, in the latter half of the 20th century, no
longer accepted the black & white perception that Heaven is so very
much intent on. He saw the gray area in the world, and did not act
like an angel all the time. This got him in serious trouble, and
after blantantly defying divine orders, he was cast out of Heaven.
He was to spend a term on Earth as an ethereal spirit, but Grehgor only
made things worse for himself. In fact, he delved into some down
right unholy circles. He was only trying to become corporeal again,
but only caused more trouble. He did become corporeal again, but
only for a short time. Heaven eventually decided that the havok,
unintentional or not, Venisson had caused could not be undone. That,
coupled with the fact that he continually disobeyed direct orders from
the hierarchy of Heaven, forced them to deny him a return to Heaven.
He would never become an angel again, and his tenure as an ethereal entity
/ being was terminated. This, by default, forced Venisson to become
an agent of Hell. They kept him on Earth for a time, but once he
started to mend his ways by performing good, selfless acts, they slammed
him down into Hell. They made Grahgor into a demon, though, he was
a very low level one.
After some time in Hell, Grahgor was able to find ways
out of "the basement", and one of those times, he encountered the man who
had now adopted the name of Victor Alexander Murdoc. Grahgor, being
a demon now, a reluctant demon, but a demon nonetheless, surely fell into
the proverbial crosshairs of Murdoc. It wasn't a very friendly beginning,
but later on, the two were able to understand one another greatly.
Grahgor has also encountered Eillott a few times since his banishment to
Hell. Neither are very fond of one another, and Murdoc has had to
be a mediator in the very few times he's been around them both at once.
In the past few years, Murdoc has become a close friend
and ally of Ravenswood's Mitch Austin - a man with his own cursed bloodline
and deep ties to the unholy underworld. Austin is well-read on all
things occult and unholy especially from his pre-destined possession of
Necronomicron ex mortis - the book of the dead. Mitch is an invaluable
friend and resource for Murdoc, but doesn't drop in on him as often as
he'd like. Though, he does phone in quite often from the road.
When Murdoc and Austin do meet up, it would not be wise for the forces
of darkness to come looking for them. Together, they are an extremely
formidable team, but usually, they have their own separate evils to battle.
Through Mitch Austin, Murdoc has become acquainted with the private investigator
Vic Simmons and Mitch's chief research assistant Allen Coldwell at the
Austaine Paranormal-Supernatural Research Society. Murdoc doesn't
get along too well with Vic Simmons, and Allen Coldwell can be somewhat
of an annoyance at times, despite his best intentions. Ravenswood,
as well as the rest of Chicagoland, is a haven for paranormal activity,
and gets its share of demonic and unholy visitors. So, whenever Mitch
Austin is away on research business, he notifies Murdoc of as much, and
hopes that the bounty hunter can swing through the area to vanquish can
uprising of unholy evil that may surface in his absence. |
